Canterbury Christian School Special Events for Students to Compete / Excel
There are several special events marking each school year at Canterbury which serve to add spice and flavor to an already full menu of learning.
The first special event of each year is the Get Acquainted Picnic appropriately held during the first month of school.
Several other special “academic” events are scattered throughout the year, including:
- Math Olympics (Grades 3-6)
- Speech Meet (Grades 1-3 & 4-6)
- Spelling Bee (Grades 1-3 & 4-6)
- Creative Writing Competition (Grades 4-6)
Penmanship Festival (School-wide)
Each year the fourth grade enjoys a field trip to Filoli Gardens and also a day-long train ride to Sacramento where they tour the State Capital Building.
Each year the fifth grade relishes their five days of outdoor studies at Mission Springs Science Camp.
The highlight of the year and maybe their education for the sixth grade is their week-long tour of Washington D.C.
Each spring, the fifth and sixth grade bell teams participate in an All Bay Area Hand Bell Festival in Haywood.
