Kindergarten After-School Care
The academic portion of Canterbury’s kindergarten program extends from 8:20am to 11:45am. This represents a full day’s work for a five-year old child. Some kindergarten parents elect to take their children home for the balance of the day. Others exercise the option of keeping their children at Canterbury up until 5:30pm.
Canterbury’s after-school kindergarten care program is open only to Canterbury families and not to the public. It includes a time for lunch, after-lunch recess, rest time, story time by Canterbury’s library staff, crafts, afternoon recess, coloring, and other special projects. Short field trips are occasionally scheduled (Los Altos public library, for example — or parks when weather permits). Though daily lunches are the responsibility of families, kindergartners in after-school care may participate in the Friday hot lunch program available to the other grades.
The cost for Canterbury’s after-school care is $6 per hour. Total annual charges up until 3:00pm is $1000 maximum. After-school care for children staying past 3:00pm up until 5:30pm is charged at a flat rate of $6 per hour.
